Well, Katie, if you're going to cheat might as well do it right! Tongue

true! I wasn't even really craving sugar, but had to make brownies for a neighbor to say sorry (long story) and had one because i wanted to see how sugar would affect the scale- that led to craving sugar though! so.. there ya go. once I start, I can't stop. which is why I KNOW I need a good long break.

Well, at least the scale was down! Today isn't going to be easy for me cause I have to make toppings for the ice cream social we're having on Saturday... so I'll have to be "taste-testing" but hopefully I will be able to exercise a lot of self-control!

I'm really kind of over this challenge. Embarrassed I really want to bake and eat something. Or ice cream. But, I feel like I'm losing weight and I know I need to do it so I'll stick with it.

Katherine, I'm not sure I could resist if I had brownies in front of me! The only thing keeping me going is that I am the only one who brings desserts into this house!

BTW, I talked my sister into joining us. She's a nurse and they have goodies at the hospital all the time and she wants to quit mindlessly eating them. She said the first day was awful because out of instinct she reached for some candy sitting out and then realized what she was doing. LOL Sometimes I don't miss working at an office because i had that problem all the time there!

How's everyone doing?

I'm doing well, no cheats other than a few bites of the dessert I made for the P'ingredients challenge. Then I made DH eat the rest so I wouldn't be tempted. Tongue I'm getting used to not reaching for something sweet (other than fruit) after every meal, which is great! I needed this *desperately*. Oh! And I've lost 4 inches around my waist and 1/2 inch off my hips! Shocked Yay!

Wow that is awesome Erin! And way to go Katie for trying again! Thumbs%20Up

I've been doing so/so this week I made a bunch of stuff for our ice cream social so I did a lot of "tasting" Embarrassed Tongue but I was expecting that so I don't feel too bad. Now I just have to get back in the groove of not eating it! I lost 1 lb, but other than that I don't think things have changed much. Angry

Nothing but cutting out sugar and walk/running 3x a week.

I find I don't snack if I can't have sweet snacks. I just don't care to eat anything else! Embarrassed

Sorry you're feeling discouraged, Brittany!

I weighed myself this morning and only lost 2 lbs. Wacko But, it was a different scale than I normally use so maybe it's not accurate, or maybe (hopefully) I'm gaining muscle from running. I want to see the numbers go DOWN though!

erin, imo, INCHES are waay better to lose than lbs. but i hope it was just the different scale.

i would want a sweet, but get peanut butter or apple or cheese instead...

i resisted. i'm getting kind of into it -- getting some sort of willpower thrill i haven't ever had before. if i'm this far in Im feeling like i could do the whole month.

DH fell off the wagon - chocolate ice cream cones right in front of me, i had to hold it while he got in the car -- but he's getting rightbback on.

Katherine, that is AMAZING you held out while holding an ice cream cone. I don't think I could do that!

I'm getting pretty hard core...traded my vanilla coconut milk for unsweetened and trying to make eggs every day for breakfast rather than PB.

I'm thinking ahead to when the challenge is over and how to eat sweets moderately. I'm just not good at that. I'm such an all or nothing kind of person. I guess I'll just have to give it a shot and do another sugar fast if I find myself overindulging or the scale creeping back up.

You know, for a moment i had just a glimmer of what it might be like to be anorexic -- but without the warped body-image problem! I was sort of grooving on the control factor there.

Let's see if i can sustain it.

Oh, yeah and excercise. right, i keep forgetting about that part. It would sure help if had some time! You know, i go to complain about being a working mom, then remember: it's waaay easier to steal time away from your boss than your kids! I need to exploit that more.

Oh, and in DH's defense. We had to make an emergency pit stop for Solomon. And the closest candidate was a Baskin-Robbins. What can you do?

Had to cheat today out of necessity. I ran at the gym and hadn't eaten enough I guess, felt really sick and dizzy driving home and I was worried I would pass out so I found a granola bar in the diaper bag and ate it. NOt even a good cheat! Oh well, I felt better. Next time I will plan ahead and eat something before or take a snack with me. Or I should have grabbed a juice from the vending machine or something.

Yeah, you being at the gym gives you enough points to have one granola bar. Wink I decided to not exercise this week and see if I'm still at the same weight... that'll be interesting. I ate ice cream tonight cause we had DH's family over and I'll probably be having more stuff on Friday and Saturday since we'll be doing several things and staying over with some friends. I think it has really helped me break the habit and caused me to choose healthier snacks over chocolate every time my blood sugar goes down, so hopefully this will carry over into normal life after the challenge is over! We're about half way done now, right?!

Brittany, that will be interesting to see if not exercising affects it. Glad to hear this is helping you make better choices. I'm hoping the same will be true for me!

Thanks Katherine, lol. It just drives me crazy to bust my rear at the gym and see a measly 200 calories burned on the treadmill. Which is probably about what the granola bar had. *sigh* I need to be thinking big picture though- getting in shape and raising my metabolism!

WTG Katherine!

I am failing again I had friends coming over who love sweet but healthy treats and I made comletely raw mounds candy! I even made the chocolate from coconut oil, raw coconut nectar and cacao. They are relatively low sugar (and coconut nectar is low glycemic 100% natural unrefined raw) and healthy imo. I have them here and hopefully will just stick with those as my treat instead of anything else. EXCEPT I am doing 2 small wedding cakes- a bride's cake and groom's cake- for my friend's wedding on the 17th. She is seriously allergic to dairy, not just sensitive, and hasn't really eaten cake in years?! I am doing a devils food cheesecake covered with ganache for the dark groom's cake and she wants one covered in white roses, so I will have to do some trial baking and testing to get a good cake for her without any milk or butter! I know that is impossible for me to do without tasting along the way.. and to add another toughie, we are going on vacation next week! I am not sure when I will be 100% with no sugar, so for now I am working on lowering it and keeping it as whole/healthy as possible.

Erin, are you getting enough calories and carbs? I know you said you don't snack much if you're not snacking on sweets, maybe you should get some carby snacks to keep your bs and bp up while nursing and exercising. dizzy is no good! but that's awesome that you're sticking with it so hard core.

Katie, that really would be tough to do wedding cake testing without eating too much. That sounds like fun though! And a challenge. I'm sure you'll find a non-dairy cake recipe no problem, but frosting is tougher. Maybe a meringue frosting? Otherwise you'll have to do shortening, blech. A lot of people like that sugar-loaded stuff though!

I think I am getting enough calories since I'm not losing weight too fast and my milk supply is good. But I probably should have a carb-y snack before running. Usually if I snack I go way over my calories for the day so I'm trying to limit that to just fruit.

Well....my mom brought us an ice cream sundae to celebrate our house sale going through (she didn't know I gave up sugar) so I had a few bites. Funny thing was after a few bites I was really done. So that's great! I think this must really be helping!

Anyone still with me? This is the last day! I'm trying to decide what to bake for my celebration dessert! LOL

I thought this was really great and helped me not to feel like I need sweets after every meal. I think I'm going to keep at it- modified to be no sweets during the week, only on Saturdays and Sundays and then in moderation.

Woohoo! Great job Erin! I've been really, really bad and cheated a lot since my Grandma was here and we've been eating at other people's houses a lot. It really has helped me choose better snacks throughout the day though (I eat a ton of cheese sticks now) so I'm still glad I did it, it was just hard with everything we've had going on lately. I hope everyone else did better than me! Embarrassed

Whoo Erin!

DH and I are with you, albeit with some lapses, but are eating waaaay less sugar now. We were just talking about it. I have to go back and check the dates, but I think I have about one week more. it feels really good to stop mindlessly shoving sweet stuff from the pantry in my face.

ETA: omigosh it'll be a week on Saturday! Wow. Maybe i should plan a trip to my favorite bakery (chocolate berry bread pudding and Baker & Spice....)

I think the main thing i've learned is how hard it is when someone else is partaking. makes me want to keep it up for DH's sake. (my reason at this point is more vanity, his is health)

Congratulations ladies! We are almost done with our month of travel and birthdays, so I will be starting my own stricter no-sugar routine on Monday. I'm both dreading and looking forward to it, but I really, really need it after the last few weeks! I'd love it if anyone wants to stick around with me. Thumbs%20Up

Erin, I don't think I can handle another month. LOL I am going to cut waaaay back though. I should probably do another month in November in preparation for the holidays!

Brittany, it is SO hard when you're around other people eating sweets. That's great about chosing better snacks though!

I haven't made anything yet...though I've been dying to make my 12-egg sponge cake now that we have fresh eggs. I did dig out the monster cookies I had in the deep freeze last night- I was really hoping they would be freezer burnt by now, but NOPE! they were delicious. ConfusedLOL GOT to get those out of the house soon!
