    Posted: 12 Sep 2012 at 3:06am
So I went ahead and converted one GMD yellow edge prefold to a fitted. I used fold over elastic and gathered and the back and legs. I slightly modified the Darling Diapers pattern. The extra fabric I sewed into a doubler. Hopefully it works well, DS2 is trying it out now so I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Here it is on the little guy. He is 1 month, 11.5 lbs.

And with a Thirsties Duo size 1 on the medium rise.

It's very generous in the bum and the rise didn't shrink like I thought it would. All in all I'm pretty pleased. Any thoughts for improvements?

UPDATE - These work awesome! They have only leaked once, but I don't think anything else on earth could have contained that mess! He is over 13 pounds now with chunkier thighs. I can lay in a hemp insert and they work well overnight. They still fit well, although the rise is probably going to be too short in a month. Good thing I have more prefolds coming!

that is super cute.  Good job.  My only thought would be if you make bigger sizes to make the tabs a bit longer.

I had some made for me for DS2 out of premiums (I don't sew) and they girl didn't add any length to the tabls and I couldn't fasten them around his middle--they were too short.

Probably NAK-- so please excuse the typos.

Thanks so much! I did extend the wings, so that problem is covered. It worked great!! No BP poop on the cover at all. I made a couple more today and am really liking them. My hubby says they look like underoos and wants me to convert all the prefolds. I think I will wash them up first to see how they do.

Yeah, I wish this guy wasn't so big! We never got him into some of his newborn clothes. He's gained almost 4 lbs since birth. I just found out that I have an oversupply issue which means he's been getting a lot of foremilk which is really high in calories but low in fat. He nurses really often because he doesn't feel full. His weight gain is from all the extra calories. Hopefully it will slow down once I can decrease my supply so he get more hind milk Confused. On the other hand, I've lost all my baby weight Wink.

I never thought about FOE.  That seems like it would be much more gentle on the legs.  That was the main problem I was running into with the workhorse diapers...not to mention the FOE is much cuter!  I think I have a new sewing project now.
