So the daycare is making noises about wanting something other then diapers for harry to use so they can potty train him. i told them i am not on board with it bc although he is chrnologically 21 months, he is actually only almost 15 developmentally.
but I do need to start looking for trainers, if only to start bulding up a stash of them. i know that Pin mamas know fantastic things that i don't know about everything so...here i go! there are a couple of things to keep in mind though before recommending brands/types please... 1. Harry has no working thumbs and has three severely contracted fingers on his left hand - think like a flat claw. trainers must be easy to pull up and down using a scissor type grip. i thought of trying sandy's but mine are snap and kinda thck- he couldn't get his fingers around it. 2. if they come apart at the sides (i'm thinking that huggies trainers) then they need to be velcro. they have already ruined two of my snap dipes so the easier, the better. 3. i need to be able to get them in canada :) thanks in advance! |

I don't have any suggestions for you - we use sandies and I do the pulling up and down!
Yikes, I'd be pretty annoyed with a daycare that was pushing toilet training that young, especially for a kid with special needs. I hope they are respectful of your wishes. |

I'm guessing they require them to be waterproof?

I hit enter before I was done...
Um... why are they so insistant on this? He's only 21mo! With special needs! My DS was 22mo in daycare and all they did was take his diaper off and sit him on the potty and then slap a new diaper on. lol

They want him to be like the other kids and blah blah blah. but i think it has to do with the fact there isn't a change table in the room and they will change him on the floor on a mat. i don't mind that, less chance of him to fall! and if they want to put im on the toilet, sure, go ahead. but i'm not giong to buy them sposie pull ups so i figured i better seriously look at trainers.
but really, i'm looking for another daycare but finding one that will take a child with speical needs is nuts. |

Really? My DS is 3, attends preschool, and has no special needs. He is not fully potty trained and preschool has never complained about him wearing his BG 3.0's. But I digress...
I was just looking at trainers today. I liked the look of Blueberry trainers. We had some Blueberry AIOs at one time that I loved. The trainers have absorbent layers plus PUL layer, and have no fasteners so they pull up/down like undies. Might be harder to clean up poo though. IDK. They're a fairly good price at Diaper Junction right now (am I allowed to say that?). I'm thinking of the dinosaur print and the cow print for Zach.

Thanks :) They said most of this to Ed and then I got into it when he called me from the drugstore asking me what he should buy. so i talked with them when i picked him up and that was the reasons they gave me. their reasons are flimsy and just plain silly but at least i can say that i am looking. |

Wow Jenn. jordan is 3 and no where near PT and has no speical needs either. Daycare is fine with diapers. Hope you find another daycare that doesnt' push PT so early. He is still very young even not adjusted age. But as for trainers. not sure. I have a couple happy heiny ones that I am going to start using on Jordan but they have snaps on the side. Not sure if they make them in aplix. I can let you know how they work.

The flip trainers seem to be pretty nice/absorbent, but they have snap on the side (though I think BG snaps tend to be pretty tough, DH hasn't been able to break them yet despite its ripping them open like he's superman). IMHO, I might just get a Drs. note saying that it isn't necessary until you deem it so. They can't argue with that.....at least until you find another daycare....or they get their minds right.

Tiny Bird Organics trainers work really well on my ds2 who is in preschool. Under wool- interlock shorties. If we don't use wool, I have one waterproof pull-on trainers from blueberry (not the one they are selling now) with the PUL on the outside...and they are great, I wish I will have more....and since they don't make them anymore, and don't know where to find them.

BumUnders are awesome and an easy up and down option or maybe SuperUndies - it seems a lot of people like those (we never tried them though) and they have a pull-on undies option or a pocket option where you can adjust the absorbency. BestBottoms has a new trainer system that might work well too.

In my experience, BumUnders are more waterproof than Blueberry. Both still got damp on the outside, but Bumunders less. No puddles with either though.

The same here! If I use them, they need to be under wool, that's for sure. But the one that I got from their grab sale bag, was pul on the outside...I never saw it before, and now I am looking for more....Where to find them? I know that TBO was suppose to be coming up with waterproof version...I can't wait to see. |

Actually, yes. Little Beetles makes a beautiful merino wool training pant cover. It's made to be extra insurance over training pants (like Gerber) or undies. If you buy one I'll need to see action shots and live vicariously through you because I can't afford to buy any right now...

Okay, so I didn't read all the responses, bbbuuuuuttttt.....that is crazy!! When Sugar Bum started daycare, she was 2.5 and fully potty trained and the daycare was all like 'WWHHHAAATTTT?' She was the only one not in diapers in her class. I can't believe that they'd be so pushy about potty training even if he didn't have special needs. Just crazy!!
That said, sorry, no experience with trainers, so I have no advice to give. Personally.....I'd tell the daycare to bite me. You know...maybe not with those words exactly. ETA: sorry.....I worked last night and haven't had much sleep. I don't have much of a filter when I'm tired.
