I just finished Girl Who Chased the Moon for book club- I didn't love it...I'm not sure I liked it....  I have been listening to some Jane Austen audio books ( for the umpteenth time. I love  them and never get tired of them!) -  I'm thinking of starting another Jane Austen book - Mansfield park or Emma.....  My interest is piqued by the Janet Evanovich series Tess mentioned....

What books have you read lately? Any recommendations?

I just got the email that the new John Grisham book - The Litigators - is available for me to pick up - I put it on hold a month ago and was #66 so I am excited to start that

I also have the most recent Clive Cussler book that I just picked up at the library (his books are fast entertaining reads)

I've been reading every Lorna Landvik novel I can get my hands on. She's great.  Just character based generational stories...following characters throughout their lives.  Started with Angry Housewives Eating Bon Bons.  This one is about a group of moms in a subdivision and tells their stories from when they have little ones at home until they are empty-nesters.  Loved it.

I am squeamish about the topic too. But my DH devoured the first book in just a few days. And he is not a reader. Like never, ever reads. And he could not put it down. He said he thought I would be OK with it, even knowing how sensitive I am. I hope he is right. Otherwise, he will be paying for the therapy. Wink

I love Hunger Games.  But I like those type of books (dystopian society stuff).

I just finished Night Circus and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children.  Both are appropriate for young adults (I know Miss Peregrine's is a young adult book and Night Circus might be).  Night Circus is better in my opinion.  The other book is good but I think it might be the first in a future series or something because it doesn't really end with anything wrapped up.  The format is interesting though with old photographs used to help tell the story.

I am supposed to be reading Heretic's Daughter now for book club.

I'm currently re-reading Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series--I think I'm on the fifth one, just started it again last night.

I've been getting recipe and gardening books out of the library, hoping to be inspired. It's not really working. LOL

Jen, I've tried plodding through Mansfield Park. I started it about 8 years ago, and still have my place bookmarked. For some reason, I find it hard to work through all the boredom. I absolutely ADORE the movies though! I've liked every one of them I've seen, no matter who was in them or anything else.

Mansfield Park is the least approachable Jane Austen book in my opinion.  The first time I read it I barely made it through and I gave myself permission to skip boring pages. I should try it again and see if my opinion changed.

My fave Jane Austen books are (these are pretty close): Persuasion, Pride and Prejudice, and Emma (although I do skip some dialogue in Emma).  I also enjoy Northanger Abbey.  I like Sense and Sensibility but am not as drawn to that one.  Lady Susan when I finally read it was interesting and worth a look if you haven't seen it before.  It is made up of letters so a very different format but once I got into it it flowed easily and wasn't boring.

I forgot to mention before that I did not really like the 7th Harry Potter book the first time I read it (found it really boring in the beginning) but read it again and liked it a lot more the second time.

Just finishing up One Million Arrows. I've spent a LOT of time this month focusing on relationship books as well. For Women Only- Unlocking the Inner Lives of Men by Shaunti Feldhan was fantastic. I also really liked Kiss Me Like You Mean It- Solomon's Crazy in Love How-To Manual.

Not sure what novel is next on my list. Read Yellow Crocus this month. That was a wonderful story. I love historical fiction.

I go through phases of interest. A couple months ago I read a lot on healthy eating and in turn where our food comes from. Then I was wanting to learn more about prayer - journaling, types of prayer, etc. Now I am reading books on homemaking and motherhood (trying to refill my sails I guess). I am also doing a Bible plan where I read through the OT once and NT twice in a year which has been good for me - I've learned more in 5 weeks than I have since I became a Christian in college! All those points are finally connecting in my head. I have so many other non-fiction things I want to read that I rarely get into fiction anymore. DS, ODD and I have been reading a chapter or two of Little House in the Big Woods so I hope to continue with some of the classics with them (one of DS's faves is a 14 chapter abridged version of Moby Dick). I have found a lot of them for free on my Kindle so I'll save those for those 2 AM nursing sessions I guess. I actually downloaded a couple that I remember from HS so I can reread them - Sense and Sensibility, Woman in White, one or two others.

I loved the Hunger Games.  I read all 3 in just a few days and so did DH, and he's a super slow reader.  I had a friend who was appalled the first chapter, but after about 3 chapters she didn't put it down.  I highly encourage you to push through a few chapters before you decide!

Right now I'm not reading anything.  I love my nook, but there are so many choices, and I read pvery fast so it gets expensive.  There are lots of free books, but I can't seem to get into any of them.  So DH has taken over my nook for a while.

I'm considering the Hunger Games. I just finished reading The STory Girl by L M Montgomery last night so I am on the lookout for a new book. Might reread some of the later Anne books since they are all free on kobo right now.

I will soon be reading Wild Thing -- because my friend wrote it.

His first book was Beat the Reaper -- some disturbing stuff in it that i'm not sure everyone on the Pin would get into, but he's an awesome writer, if you have a taste/tolerance for a certain degree of sex/violence. Though, actually know very little about the new book. Expect DH says it's more political and involves a loch ness monster type phenomenon.

I'm at the end of Tim Tebow's Through My Eyes. I was just very interested in his life, not so much the football part of it. Has been a great book. Except for all the football plays details.

I'm sorta interested in The Hunger Games. I may read it next on the Kindle. We leave for vacation Sunday so that would be a good time to start a new book.

I am reading Jeffery Eugenides "Marriage Plot".
Next up is Jane McCafferty "First You Try Everything" (which just came out and was written by my teenage son's girlfriends mom. This woman could be his future MIL!!!--anyway, Donovan told me that this mom "liked books" after he met her, but never mentioned that she had five of them published!)

Clive Cussler is just a like adventure type book. Usually someone is trying to destroy the world in some crazy way (like tilting the earth off its axes so that it will create a climant change and people on these huge cruise ships will be the only survivors) and the main character has to save the day. He has a few different groups, some are Dirk Pitt and there is the Organ Series, Fargo Mysteries, NUMA adventures... They are not heavy but fun reads! I can read one in a weekend which still shocks DH, but I remind him they are not "deep" but fun.

Erin I couldn't get into it either and actually gave up. I should try again. But I read reviews about people taking notes because there's so many people/places to remember Confused  My friend said that after you get past a certain point it gets more interesting and goes a lot faster. I honestly don't think I made it past page 50ish. lol

I LOVED The Hunger Games series. Seriously can't wait for the movie to come out just to see how they pull it off. I know it won't come anywhere close to the book. But still, I'm intrigued!
