Okay, I know this is early but I need to figure this out so I can be on the lookout for a good deal on a new infant seat.
DH has a toyota camry and currently we have two Graco Nautalis seats in there. Is there any infant seat that I can get that will fit between those two. I am not even sure how often all three would be in there but DH is responsible for mornings so that means daycare drop off ect. Joseph will be in kindergarden next year and I am not sure if he will ride the bus of if DH will have to take him. If he has to be dropped off then every day DH will have to put three kids in his car to take Joseph to school.
Any advise would be wonderful.
I guess Joseph could go to a high back booster for DH's car so if there is a ceap one of those that might be an option. I did see this one but not sure if its more narrow than the nautalis

I would avoid the booster for 3 across. I tried one in our Civic with 3 across and it was possible, but a huge PITB. Unless you have a really generously sized backseat it is really really difficult to get to the seatbelt buckle with three seats crammed together. With a 5-point harness at least once you get through the hassle of installing everything, the buckles are easily accessible. The exception might be if your seatbelt buckle is outboard, then you could get to it easily. We ended up w/ the Bubble Bum booster but my DS is much older. Had he been younger, I would have gotten him a Radian. No advice on the infant seat, but I might keep an eye out for deals on Radians.

Good point on buckling the seat belt. I didn't even think about that. The 5pt harnus would be much easier. |

the BabyTrend FlexLoc is narrow - the base is the narrowest one I tried. that narrow base is what made the difference for me - I couldn't get the much wider Graco base between two radians in our car.
And I doubt seriously you'll be able to get 2 nautiluses and an infant seat in a civic. though you can take the floor model of any carseat at babies r us outto your car to try it out. they just take your drivers license while you have the seat.

Dude, I totally read civic and not camry.
It should be much easier to fit 3 across in a camry for sure. I totally and completely with Amanda about not using a booster in a 3 across. It's a royal PITB to have to buckle every time. I know some people just leave them buckled and have their kids climb in there with them pre-buckled but my kids have never been able to figure out how to do that. They keep locking the seatbelt and then I have to go help them anyway.
It is possible that you may have to replace one of the Nauti's to fit 3 across...it's a pretty wide seat. How tall are your kids? 'cause a lot of the cheaper seats don't fit tall kids (especially since your #2 is almost 3????). A Radian would for sure fit them (fits my tall 7 year old w/ room to grow).

Joseph is tall. He is on the next to the top slot of the Nauti right now. There is no way Joseph would be able to climb in and out of a pre-buckled seat. The kid is not that cordinated

How about Jordan? Is he tall, too? 'cause there's a really narrow seat that I can't remember the name of
that is also cheap and very good. Oh wait, I just remembered: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Cosco-Scenera-5-Point-Convertible-Car-Seat-Black-Santee/13004563
My kids outgrew it by 2.5 years but they are very long torsoed kids. It also has a 40 lb weight limit which has never been a problem for us (dd2 hit 40 lbs at age 5). Might be for you, though.

These are the charts I've been using to try and choose three seats to get three across our narrow third row in the van:

He is pretty tall too. Probably about 37/38 in and weighs 30 to 33lbs already. Longer torso. He wears a 4T shirt. that is a great site Liz.. Thanks..
According to the site I need 55in min. to get the baby trend, and the two nautalis seats. Once is the elite so it gives me .25in less. But in realality I need a little bit more so DH can get the infant seat in.
Anyone know how much room has to be between the seat and the door?

There's a lot more to it than just the dimensions of the backseat. My Hyundai Sonata has one of the widest backseats in a sedan but the way it's set up, it's harder to get 3 across in than in a civic. And there's a good 10 inches between the carseat and the door with no way to get the seat any closer. Seriously. Some seats puzzle together better than others and generally using a seatbelt install v. LATCH install will buy you a few inches...you really do need to go to BRU or something and see how it all fits together.

I didn't read other replies but the Cosco Scenera is VERY narrow and perfect for newborns-40lbs, though yours would be out of it around 2y/o if they're super tall. HTH!

Any chance you would want a Radian in the mix. They are really narrow and the harness height is the same as the GN. DD is 5.5 (50#'s and tall) and she can still fit in the Radian65 even though she rides in a GN. I second just keeping a 5-point vs. a HBB. It is so much easier to use a 5-point than try to squeeze my hand between seats if I was to use a seat belt.

I just had my Radian XT and Nauti Elite in my mom's Camry a few weeks ago and they fit really well side by side with tons of room for me in the third spot. I got a great install with the seatbelt for the Radian in the middle (seatbelt installs with Radians can sometimes be tough from what I've read). I've been trying to get a booster and the Radian in my Outback side by side this week to make room for a passenger in the 3rd spot, and I totally agree not to go the booster route with 3 across. It is tough to buckle! Even with the low profile of the Radian next to it, I have a hard time getting my hand in there. I think I'm going to try and get my Nauti back in there instead of the booster.

The Cosco Scenera is even narrower than the Radian in case you needed to know. There's a 1/2" difference.

Hey Jess-- do you know what the height limit is on the Cosco Scenera. I looked at the Walmart website and only found weight. Jordan is about 31/32 inches tall. He is 21in from the back of his head to his butt. |

It is not very tall. My DS isn't very tall and he was in one over the summer at Grandma's and I remember wondering how much longer it was going to last. You will definitely get much more time height-wise out of a Radian. In general, I'm not a huge fan of the Scenera overall anyway. The buckles are a pain and I have trouble keeping a good install with it. It's fine for an extra seat, but I wouldn't want to use it as my everyday seat. |

I used to have a Camry (until last Oct) and no Nautilus's, so I don't know if this is helpful or not...
We had a Radian and a Safety First seat and the only way we could fit an infant seat in was without the base. An option to consider, you just have to remember to buckle it in every time. |

My friend had Scenera's as her main seats for her twins and she did not like them. She liked them for the price but the kids complained that their backs hurt after more than an hour in the car. They took a 2 day road trip and she said by the time they made it they both had bruises on their backs and she tried to figure out what it was but never could (like something in the seat) so she figured it had to do with the shape and the way it fit their body. They both fit it it until they were 2.5 but after that they were too tall. They are now in TrueFits and so much happier and comfortable - no more complaints of sore backs.

We can fit our 3 seats, a GN, a TF and a safety first onboard 3 across in our Mercury Mountaineer. It's a SUV, so no clue how it compares to a Camry. We chose the onboard because it was fairly narrow. We went' to BRU and tried out like 2 or 3 different seats in our car.
