If you use family cloth in the bathroom, what do you use? I have enough wipes for DD and still have some flannel left over, I was thinking of making some cloth for the restroom. Also, how does it work, do you just have a basket on the toilet or what? I'm on a saving-money-any-way-possible kick lately, and this was another one of my thoughts. I used to think it was a little gross, but now that I'm using all cloth on DD it doesn't seem that odd!
Also, do you just use it dry or wet it first??

I made flannel/flannel wipes about 6" square. For a while I was measuring, but then I got smart (lazy), and decided to just divide up the amt. of flannel I had on hand and make whatever size seemed reasonable and the best use of the fabric. My stash isn't all the same size, but who cares?
I have a small step-can that I use for family cloth only. If I really cared, I'd maybe come up w/ a system that has a little more ventilation (like an open diaper pail has), but since the lid is down on the can the odor stays contained pretty well. I tried wet for everything at first, but the moisture made a stronger smell. Now, I use Witch Hazel & water to wet when cleaning from #2, and use them dry for #1. It's been months, and I use sooooo much less TP. |

I like the 8x6 wipes myself. I got some in a variety pack and couldn't figure out what to use them for, but after a few weeks in the bathroom I was ready to switch. Our diaper pail is in the bathroom, so whatever we use just goes in there and gets washed with the diapers. I live in a house of boys, so I was using the bulk of the TP and now not so much. I can't even remember the last time we bought any. We keep some on hand for guests. The boys are slower in the switch and DH hasn't experienced it either, but it's working for me.

I bought some of our wipes and others are just repurposed butt wipes from DS. The bought one's are 4x4 and perfect for DD to use. The repurposed wipes are 8x8 and i fold them in quarters. I keep them stacked on the counter by the toilet and we put them in a wet bag that hangs from the paper holder.
DH thinks we're crazy for using it, but me and DD love it. We use them just for pee as the kids and myself prefer wet wipes for #2. But we cut out TP consumption in thirds by using the wipes for us ladies.

I bought 3 doz. 6x6 wipes and I keep them in a basket on the back of the toilet. Then I have a step-lid trash can with a removable bucket right there. It's nice to have the pail right there so I can put dipes in it if I have a nasty one I have to flush. I only use the wipes (dry) for #1, but it cuts down on the t.p. usage quite a bit. I will use wet wipes occasionally for "freshening up".

I just started doing this since I 'm going so often now that I'm pregnant. I just use some extra 8x8 diaper wipes we had gotten free awhile back, but didn't really need. I need to get or make some more though. Mine are single layer and I fold them into quarters (I like them being kinda thick), keep them on a basket on the back of the toliet, and use them dry for #1. I haven't ventured any farther yet, but even that cuts down tremendously on TP usage. I have a small diaper pail in the bathroom for DSs post-plopped diapers so I just throw them in there.
Comfy, really easy, and not really any more gross than using TP since I'm just dumping the pail anyway. So far I'm really liking it. Edited by jberrec - 10 Nov 2009 at 10:00am |

We use Panda Tushies wipes. I got mine in a grab bag, so there's bamboo velour, fleece, and terry. I like the terry/velour ones best-- they're the perfect thickness and absorbency-- but *all* of them are better than paper. I used to think it was gross, too, but when DD PL'd I used cloth wipes for her since we were accustomed to cloth baby wipes, and it grossed me out to wipe her bum with TP-- it would get caught between her (very large) butt cheeks and I'd have to dig it out.
Then I started using FC for myself for #1, and then shortly afterward for #2 as well. DH was against it, but we ran out of TP once and he had to use my FC and now he loves it as well. He says it's luxurious on him bum. I use them dry for myself usually, but when DD poops I usually wet the wipe in the sink before I wipe her. I think I've caught DH wetting them for himself before, though. ![]() Edited by mttav - 10 Nov 2009 at 6:22pm |

I usually just use TP, but sometimes if I feel it's not enough, I rinse with the diaper sprayer and then dry off with one of ds's wipes (the changing table is within reach of the toilet). Then I just toss it in the diaper pail.

when we were diapering, we used the cheap-o washcloths from target -- the ones that come in 12-packs for $3.99 or $4.99 or something like that. we had 4 dozen maybe? then once amy potty trained over the summer, we just started using them for all of us. i also made some turned & topstitched ones out of flannel -- maybe a dozen or 2 dozen? then tess/taowensf sent us a bunch of her wipes so those got added to the rotation. i don't even know how many we have now, but we only have to wash maybe once a week because we have so many. we keep the clean ones in a basket on the floor next to the toilet. we use the same wicker hamper that we used to have as a diaper pail. i wet the wipe for #2 but just use it dry for #1.
