What if I use a night time set up like I do with my older DD?
I have a 2.5 yo DD and a 4 wk old DD in Dipes. they both have the same set up for night time. the 2 yr old DD uses a AIO with 2 extra inserts and 2 fleece liners. the NB uses a wrap a size bigger that what she usually wears. i trifold a pf in the cover, then i snappi on a pf with 2 fleece liners inside. she wears it from 9pm till 6am. no problem. no leaking, no rash. no smell.
anybody else do this? am i the only one who doesnt wake up in the middle of the night with a nb?
she only wakes me up twice to nurse, i just latch her on and go back to sleep. till 6am anyway.

My DS pooped every time he ate until he we started solids (and ate every 2 hrs.), so I never had that option, but if you can get away with it, go for it!!!

When newborns eat, their brain sends a signal to their GI tract to eliminate so they poop just about every time they eat. Plus they pee a lot, too.
If you are getting the number of wet and dirty diapers that a doctor and/or lactation consultant would want to see with a newborn, I think you're almost guaranteed to have to change in the middle of the night. |

I do. My 8 wk old DD often goes all night without pooping and nurses once or twice between 8:30pm - 6:30am. I either use a BG 3.0 or a pf with doubler and fleece liners. If she poops I change her but she usually doesn't.

With the first two we changed them when they got up. With number three we didn't. I would wake up just enough to nurse her and then we'd both go back to sleep. She never got a rash from it so I didn't see a reason not to.

My DS would actually wake up to be changed, not to nurse. He'd be back asleep by the time I had the new diaper on (feed or not) and I had to wake him up to nurse. He wouldn't sleep without being changed until he was much older.
But I would defefinitely do what you are if I could have gotten away with it.

Gosh, I still get up to change her some nights...she would never have tolerated that as a NB.

If she's not bothered by it and not pooping at night, I'd do the same thing. If we'd been using cloth when DS was that little, I probably could have done it. He's never been a huge night wetter. He's actually woken up dry, he's a super pee'r in the morning though!

Wow, your lucky. I have to change maybe 3-5 times between 10pm and 7am because my nb DS is a major pooper. Sometimes I will change him after I nurse then get back in bed only to have him poop again and have to change him a second time. I dont think I've ever taken a diaper off him that didnt have poop in it, lol. |

I started when my ds2 was around 2 months old- fitted with the fleece/hemp doubler under wool- before that I was using g-inserts with g-diapers and I was changing him during the night especially that he was pooping at night.

i stopped changing amy at night when i realized that she had stopped pooping at night. this was probably around 12 weeks or so? i'm having a hard time remembering. if your lo isn't pooping, as long as you have enough absorbancy, you should be ok, i think!

I do that sometimes! T3 only poops from 5 to 6 PM so I never worry about that at night. The only reason I change her when she wakes up around 4 is to keep her awake enough to eat!

Been doing that with DD2 since we started cloth at 10 days. Luckily at night was the only time she didn't poop. Since we weren't having leaks and she wasn't getting rashey I wasn't risking waking her up to change a diaper. She also would nurse once or twice a night but never fully wake up.

I would also agree that if she isn't pooping or getting a rash it should be fine. Mine have all been heavy wetters and poopers so I never had a choice. I would recommend maybe bathing her in the morning then after laying wet- or damp- for so long.
