Has anyone ever done machine embroidery on PUL? I was thinking about embelishing and/or monogramming some PUL covers or maybe some pockets?

If anyone has tried this, do you have any tips? Like what kind of thread, stabilizer? Will the PUL still be waterproof?

Thanks!

Any time you poke a hole in PUL, that's a leak waiting to happen.  Machine embroidery = lots of holes == lots of leaks.

You'd be better off embroidering other fabric and using the PUL as an underlining.

That's what I thought, but I read somewhere that the heat of the dryer seals the PUL and was hoping it would work for Machine Embroidery too.

I know some WAHMs do custom embroidery.  I'm not sure if they reinforce w/ an extra layer of PUL or not.  According to the GreenAcreDesigns site it is an option but not a necessity.  I'd think that considering where the embroidery is located, (on the top of the bum), there's less likelihood of the PUL in that area getting saturated.

Why don't you just use the PUL as an inner hidden layer and put your cute fabric for embroidery on the outter side. You could use some thinner cloth, but make sure it isn't quilters cotton since that will probably dissolve under the pressure of all those stitches from ME.

It will be fine as long as you "seal" the PUL

2 common ways:

1. float a scrap of PUL underneath the PUL cut (between the cut & the stablizer), shiny side up. After embroidering, use the scrap to sew a "pouch" around the design

2. Iron a scrap, shiny side down, onto the design on the backside. You just have to be very careful that the iron doesn't touch the PUL cut

I use the 1st method & I don't find I have leaking :)
