As personal as baby and mama products are to the individual, I feel the Ergo Carrier is a universal must - have. The cotton canvas is extremely sturdy and has held up to much wear and tear and even several washes in the washing machine.
A carrier that places the weight of the baby on the pelvis is a must-have. There are other carriers available that allow for that, many are have a tie-on feature, but I love the ""back-back"", male/female clip and nylon feature that the Ergo has for it's waist belt and shoulder straps. They make putting the baby on, front or back, so super quick and easy. The back-style carrier design allows for baby/kid wearing well past the baby stage, when the outside help from friends and family has often disappeared and it becomes necessary to engage again in household and life chores all day. You are happier with the ability to take your baby with you through life and baby is happier being able to go along for the ride rather than being left behind on the floor!
Check out the Ergo - it's well worth the investment and although mine was a gift, I would have paid twice the amount as the worth is far more than what you pay for it.

LOVE my Ergo! Totally worth the high price. It's versatile, comfortable for my baby & me, and both mommy and daddy can wear it. My husband is MUCH more at ease using this carrier than a wrap style (like a Moby). It's well made and will last a LONG time!

3+ years and counting..we loved it! Tried several other carriers at first but i needed one where my back wouldn't be killing me after just a couple hours. I can wear the Ergo all day (6-8 hours). Child #1 loved it. Started to show wear around the 3rd year of use. Still using it with out 3 1/2 yr old. Had baby #2 and bought another Ergo right off the Ergo website. Wore baby #2 on the hip initially & at about month 4-ish, I hung the carrier low and nursed him via the carrier until he was 10 months old... He loved it!. Now both kids have an optional way to be carried & I still get to feel them snuggly and close ;) Granted we use the back-pouch method more or less now a days. A++++. Love it!

I got mine used for $35, but it's worth the money even new. Easily adjusted. Distributes the weight well, no aches or pains even after hours of wearing. Only carrier DH will use. Love love love it! Never leave the house without it.

Love my Ergo for back carries. Not a fan of front carries after about 9 months. I like it better than my Beco. Very soft and well made.

I love this carrier! My baby loves it too and that's what matters! I love how comfortable it is. It doesn't pull on my back or shoulders. I am supposed to use the insert since my baby is less than 14lbs, but instead of buying one I just swaddle by baby in a blanket first or use the Swaddleme blanket. The hood is great for rainy days or when baby is sleeping.
The one downside to it and this is the reason I did not give it a 5, is that I find the clip around the shoulders quite difficult to do up by myself. I can do it, but it's hard to do. I usually get my 4 year old to help me with it. I have not tried this carrier on my back yet. Not quite sure how to get a child in there without someone helping.
I really recommend this carrier. It is my favorite so far.

WE LOVE our Ergo. It holds the baby close, and I love having the baby against me. We got this when she was 6 months, she was able to nurse in it even while hiking. The privacy hood is great for nursing and sleeping. There have been times my daughter refuses it, but there are phases like that with everything. She still loves being held when sick or teething, and at 23 lbs and 20 months she can still ride in the front (not walking outside though, can't see my feet). On my back she is happy also, and it's easy for me to do what I need to, as long as her hands aren't too grabby.
The only thing that isn't great is the side carry. It is a little difficult to get it down, but once you do the strap is always digging in your neck, no way to anchor it to your shoulder. It's also not very easy to get her in and out of it.
I didn't use it with her as a newborn since she was 6 months when I bought it. But when we have another baby we will definately give it a go. I used the Moby Wrap with her when she was little, and it was a little difficult to learn, but she was nice and snug and happy once in it.

I was never sure whether I'd really use a baby carrier but that changed when I bought my Ergo! I had a sling before but only used it once or twice because the position of the baby seemed so uncomfortable for him. In the Ergo he was well supported under his bum and free to look around. I even took it on a trip to the US and was able to forego using the stroller in the airport - it folds really flat to fit in a suitcase or diaper bag. The only downside is it takes some getting used to to put it o your back by yourself.

I had a sling initially from newborn age, which worked great, and though it is designed to be used up to toddler stage, I soon found it did not work so well after he reached 5 months old as he found it more uncomfortable after a short duration of time and wanted to be held by me, not held in the sling.
I then used a back pack carrier, which initially I felt was great.. however, my LO started fidgeting madly one day and boy that hurt my back! As it hangs them away from your back it puts more pressure on your shoulders etc too, so after a while I did find this uncomfortable, it is also bigger so it was easy to bump into things in a shop with confined space.
I then bought this Ergo carrier after seeing women locally walking with their babies in them, and admiring how happy they both looked, and I got further information from one lady who told me a 3 yr old she knows is still in it.. so I knew I would get my moneys worth, and since my LO is now too heavy to carry around, even at home I find it hard now as he has grown and got heavier, yet is still not crawling at 5.5 months old.. I knew I had to get a carrier that supported me well and was easy to use for around the home as well as outdoors.. and so far this one has definitely been the best choice.
I do not have to lean forward or back putting him in, I just get the carrier ready, put it around my hips as the instructions advise you to, and then hold my baby close to me, and just slip it over him and over my head (straps), then a little tighten up here and there once on.. simple as that.
It is so simple and easy to use, I love it. Just what I wanted. Wish I had learned early and got this first, then I'd not have wasted time and money on the other two carriers, which I am now going to sell.

This is my first carrier, so I don't really have anything to compare it to (well except for a second hand snugli.) It is extremely easy to put my daughter in, and take her out, which was one of my main concerns. I find that it's a breeze to even walk up the stairs with her, with no back pain. The only draw back I find to this carrier, is it doesn't seem to do well with women with bigger hips. The black straps at the back dig into my sides. I think the padded part of the carrier should extended farther back so it doesn't dig into you.

This is a great carrier. It gets a 4 only because it didn't really work for us with the infant insert when our dd was really little. I always felt like she was awkwardly stuffed in there and couldn't help continuously checking to make sure she was still breathing. Of course she was always fine and most of the time she was asleep so it was probably more of my own mommy protectiveness coming out. When she hit 15 lbs I started carrier with her without the insert and it works wonderfully. It is really easy and she always falls asleep in it as well. I also like the hood as it gives her some privacy after she falls asleep. I tried her on the back position a couple of times and that works nicely as well, although I haven't perfected getting her in it just yet. I would definitely pass it along as a great carrier.

My son is big enough to fit into the Ergo now and I love it. I tried with the infant insert and it never really worked for us. It's easy on my back and I like the pocket for my wallet and cell phone. Don't be scared off by the $100+ price tag, people pay this all the time for strollers. It is worth every penny.

This is by far my favorite carrier. I've used it from when my dd was approx. 2 months old and at 3 years old, she still loves it...Talk about bang for your buck!!! I have a 1 year old and I've just ordered a second one so they can both have one. I HIGHLY recommend this carrier...my LO'S are so comfortable they fall asleep in it.
Only peeve, I wish they had a better design for newborns like other brands. Other than that, it's great. My 3 year old ergo shows no wear and tear although it gets used ALOT! I rarely use my stroller because the Ergo is just way more easier!

I credit the ERGO with bringing my daughter back from the dark side, LOL! From the day she was born she was not the most responsive baby, didn't care who was with her, didn't really like to be held, never cried, just wasn't bonding well which really troubled me because my other child and I had bonded very easily and I really wanted her to want me! By the time she was almost one I was very concerned, if you tried to hold her she would lash out and fight to get away. I saw another mom using this at the grocery and her older baby looked so snug and happy against her I bought one that night. I carried my daughter around in it non stop for about 3 weeks and over that time she gradually grew used to being held and stopped fighting to be on her own. Now going on a year later she is very tightly bonded to me and our immediate family (although she can be very resistant to outsiders), she seeks out comfort from us and still loves to ""ride"" in the Ergo. I credit the Ergo's ability to hold a larger child closely to you in a secure and comfortable position for making this possible, it was really a miracle for us and for my daughter. I know it sounds extreme but I dont' know what she would be like without it.

What would I do without the Ergo???? I have taken my daughter on wonderful hikes with her on my back and did not feel any discomfort. Long plane rides, she would fall asleep on my front in it. Hands free shopping, airport running the list goes on...
The only down fall is, I wish they had more fun prints like the Beco does.

I have this in the Organic Chocolate. I wanted something that my husband could also carry. I also have a Beco, but it's a flowery print that I didn't think my DH would want to use it. I really really like this and use it almost daily. I keep it in the house for his evening fussy time. The back carry, which is my son's favorite, is a little tricky to master. I do wish that you could secure your baby in the carrier and then buckle the waist belt, but overall it's a wonderful carrier!

I would say the Ergo is one of my top 3 Must Have baby products. It's very comfortable, fits me and my much taller husband both, and it stays in our car at all times for quick trips. We use it MUCH more frequently than our stroller. We have even gone on vacations without a stroller and used only the Ergo. It is the best carrier I have tried! Well worth the investment!

I LOVE this carrier! I've been using it to carry my 1 year old (23 lb) boy on my back. It's GREAT! I use it at the grocery store, while washing dishes or doing other household chores, for light hikes, and for whenever I need him to take a nap but we're out an about. I've carried him for 3+ hours and been perfectly comfortable. He feels so light in it. I also love the bobbly/sleeping head holding snap-up thing -- infinitely convenient.
My husband has trouble getting our son into the ERGO in the back carry without assistance. He's a bigger man and can't really reach around his back very well. I've never had any issues getting my boy in by my self, but mabye that's becasue I'm small? I'm 5ft even, and slender. I don't know if that matters.
I agree that the newborn carry device was definetly an afterthought by the company, but it does work. One of my best friends has been using her ERGO with her daughter from day one (though she didn't buy the newborn thing. she just wrapped her baby up in a big blanket and that worked fine).

I love love love this carrier. My friend made me a maya wrap which I loved when my son was little, but he gained weight very quickly (he was 30 lbs at 9 months) and the wrap stopped working once he got so heavy. He has always been a very needy baby and loves to be held. A friend recommended the Ergo to me. I did my research and I am so grateful to have this carrier. This carrier has allowed me to snuggle with my little man as much as he needs and get things done around the house as much as I need. I have back problems and could never use the Bjorn type carriers especially since my son was such a big boy. This carrier is MUCH better on my back. This is my staple hiking backpack now. My son is almost 2 and is about 32 lbs and I can carry him just fine on my back far a good amt of time. It is also easy to put him in and take him out of the carrier for those ""I do/I walk"" moments followed quickly by the ""Up mommy. Piggy back"" moments. I love having him close to my body rather than set up away from me as some of the frame carriers are set up. This carrier is totally worth the money! It is durable (I have had mine for 1 1/2 yrs and it is in perfect condition with fairly regular use for a solid year), practical (as it lasts from infancy up to toddler hood) and versatile (as you can wear your baby in the front-with a hood that is great for napping, back or side).
