I have been using gDiapers since my son was 10 days old. I love them! The cloth inserts are very trim and absorbent. The velcro fastening to the back makes for quick and easy changes on a active baby/toddler. We have had very few leaks over the past 16 months. We have found that we would only get leaks if the diaper was put on wrong, we waited to long to change, or it was time to go up to the next size.
I wanted to love the gDiapers! I bought 4 covers and 12 inserts to try them out.
*I LOVE the inserts! Super soft and absorbant.
*Very trim! One of the trimmest I have found!
*Velcro in the back. At first I wasn't sure if I would like it, but it worked just fine- in fact, my son was not able to unstrap them like he can with some of my others.
*I couldn't get a good fit. They were either too loose or so tight they left marks on his hips where the snaps for the plastic liner were.
*The plastic liners are fine, but stain easily, especially because the liners are just sitting in there and move easily.
*The liners bunch too much as they don't have a snap to hold them in place.
*Leak issues. Because the liners bunch and move, and because I couldn't get the fit right, I had leaks at every change.
My baby was about 26"" and 16lbs at the time when we tried these. We sold them and bought pocket diapers.
I really like the concept of these diapers. They are super cute, and I liked the versatility of switching between both cloth and disposable. This is the first CD I have tried, and I am really trying to like them... But they have really disappointed me. They leak. All the time. I have contacted the company for instructions on how to put on the diaper, I've watched videos and read blogs, but after everything they still leak. Especially with the explosive watery poops. They seem very specific with how you put them on in order to get no leaks, too difficult for me to figure out anyways. The liners stain really easily, and I find myself washing the diapers daily, which is crazy. My son is 6 weeks old and I need to keep using them until he grows out of them because the system was so expensive, but I am now on the hunt for a different CD... Too bad because they are so cute! :(
I gave these a try when my baby was a newborn and they worked pretty well - but the runny bf'ed poo was difficult to get out of the liners. Now that my baby is eating solids and his stools are more formed, I absolutely love these and got some Mediums for him. The fit is very trim, even on my chunker the mediums should last a while, the gcloth inserts are my favorite of all the diapers I've tried, and they are more breathable than most covers and pockets on the market, which is great for summertime. I only use the reusable gcloth inserts, so can't speak for the disposable ones. The small size OsoCozy prefolds also work well triple folded into these.
The velcro tabs going toward the back are a little awkward at first, but easy to do once you get the hang of it. We use these in the day, and double-stuffed BG pockets overnight, and the system works very well for us. As a perk, because the diaper is so trim and the cover can be reused for several changes, the volume of diaper laundry in our house is significantly reduced. Thumbs up!
(PS. We've had a few leaks with these, but no more than with any other diaper, and certainly fewer than with Fuzzi Bunz, OsoCozy AIOs, and Nana's Bottom AIOs. So we use the Gdiapers in rotation with Smartipants and BG pockets, and these are all comparable in leak coverage.)
