(Traveling With Cloth)

Swaddled in a stunning little cloth diaper, your
new baby is ready to paint the town red! The diaper bag is packed and you cannot
wait to show all your friends the new member of your family. Then it
happens. She's being passed back to you. It's diaper changing time, where do
you put the diapers?
Many new mothers and cloth diapering families forget one of the most important aspects of diapering; traveling with cloth. How does one travel with a cloth diapered baby (or two)? What are the options, and what keeps the smell in best?
Here is a quick overview and and the many options you have.
The most popular method of toting around cloth diapers is a wet bag. A wet bag consists of a water-proof fabric lining and usually a woven cotton on the outside. There are many different brands, sizes and styles. Wet bags have many different closures. There are zippered, drawstring and even Velcro closures. One aspect we think is important in wet bags is that the water-proof lining is sewn separately from the outside of the bag. This helps to ensure that the wetness from the inside of the bag will not leak through to the outside.
100% machine washable, these are a great alternative to earth clogging plastic bags. Most wet bags can be machine washed and dried in the dryer for over 100 washes. The bag can be tossed in the wash right along with your cloth diapers! When the diapering phase is over, your wet bag will be indispensable as you travel with a potty training toddler.
Luckily, many beautiful prints and styles are available to today's cloth diapering mothers. I must warn you though, that wet bags can become almost as addicting as cloth diapers and having a wet bag with a snazzy print is a definite plus when advocating cloth. So much nicer than a bread sack.
