Cloth diapering is such a personal thing. And as customers, we feel a connection to the WAHMs that put their time and love in to the products they make for us. But what do we really know about these dedicated women? What are they like when they're not designing, sewing, filling orders, running to the post office, answering emails, updating their websites or balancing the books?
Diaper Pin thought it might be fun to find out!
In the first of a series we'll meet Stacy Grinsfelder. You may know Stacy better as "Stacinator," maker of hard working (and cute!) diaper covers for cloth diapers. By the end of this interview we hope that you'll feel like old friends!
How many children do you have, what are their ages?
2 Airon (11/97) and Soren (9/00)
What's special about them?
Airon is a bright little boy with a sponge for a brain. His special trait is his curly blonde hair. Everyone wants to touch it. He is not so happy about this anymore. He possesses an excellent sense of humor and keeps us laughing every day. His attention span and perseverance drive us crazy; yet leave us in awe of his developing self. Soren is new to our family so we are just getting to know him. So far, he has a very captivating way about him. He draws in strangers and makes friends when I am too shy. He has an instant smile, which engages everyone. I enjoy watching him absorb the world, which is so new to him.
How did you meet your husband?
We met in Zion National Park in Utah. We both worked there at the time. It was a very quick Love, Hate, Love relationship. He loved me. I hated him. Then, I loved him too. LOL! We've been together going on 10 years!
What kind of a home do you have (apartment, farmhouse, castle)?
Castle...nah :-) We live in a cute little house right now. We rent from our neighbor who is an organic fruit/vegetable farmer. Our little house sits perched on a hill. I have a lovely view of mountains all around me. Behind us is a small pasture, which currently has 4 mama horses and their babies (not ours).
What did you think you'd be when you grew up?
At age 3, I thought I would own an ice cream store. :-) In high school I guessed I would go to college and major in advertising and marketing. Am I grown up yet?
Who were you in your past life (before Stacinator... any interesting jobs or schooling?)
Andy (dh) and I have had a great life so far. We've both worked in National Parks since 1992. We met in Zion National Park and worked there for 5 years. It is also where we got married. We then moved to Lake Powell Arizona. Now, here we are in California right outside of Sequoia National Park.
We've had some really great times. We've rock-climbed, rappelled, hiked, backpacked, swam, and drove our way around the west.
If you have time for hobbies, or outside interests, what are they?
The hobbies I would most like to participate in (from my past life) are rock-climbing and more backpacking. I would love to bike across a whole state with my kids in a bike trailer. Andy isn't too thrilled with that idea though. I currently enjoy my once-per-week yoga class and watching movies.
What's your favorite music?
I have eclectic tastes in music. My favorite group is the Dave Matthews Band. I love most alternative music. I also enjoy the new bluegrass stuff, Dolly Parton, and folk music too. To round out this hodge podge, I really dig Celtic tunes.
Your favorite kind of food?
I'm a vegetarian and have been for almost 11 years. I enjoy homemade mac and cheese and french fries. Yum... the healthy stuff! My favorite ethnic food would probably be Indian food.
What's your favorite product from another WAHM?
My favorite product from another WAHM is Kissaluvs diapers. I also really like the stuff from Marcey at The Blue Ladybug. She has a flair for detail and design that is not matched by many other people.
What are your dreams for the future?
I dream that Stacinator will grow and that it will get easier at the same time. I dream of an automatic snap machine that will do all my snapping for me. LOL Really, though...I dream that I will enjoy the journey of my life. I spent a lot of time looking for the *destination*. Now, that I've discovered that life is a process, I look forward to anything. Andy and I also dream of a house on a lake, in the mountains. We are currently working towards the goal of perhaps owning our own small hotel in the future.
What's something that no one would ever guess about you?
Hmmm... I love to wear makeup! I don't wear nail polish or lipstick, but I really love the other stuff.
Anything else you think would be fun for others to know about you?
We are Angelica Huston's neighbor. We never see her though. She owns a large farm/ranch right next door. :-)
