How many children do you have?
We have 10 children. Yes, they are all ours; No, we are not a blended family ; Yes, they are all our biological children; No, there are no twins or triplets! I think that answers the most common questions I get when I tell people how many children we have! LOL!
What are their ages? Please tell us something about each child.
Jeremy, 20 YO; College graduate...; Now in the Marines... Loves the computer and is trained as a computer network techy.
Jason, almost 18 YO; Works for Snap-EZ now, ...hired ...as a apprentice machinist where his dad works once he attains the age of 18! ...owns his own car and likes to modify it!
Jessica, 16 YO; Homeschooling/self-study in highschool; Working for Snap-EZ doing stocking; Loves animals, and plays the piano.
Jonathan, 13 YO; Homeschooled; Enjoys machinery/trucks/cars/fixing things
Rebekah, 11 YO going on 30; Homeschooled; Loves to swim, is a budding artist, and seems to know where to find trouble!
Rachel, 8 YO; Homeschooled; Loves babies, swimming, and will talk your ear off - usually with adorable comments only 8 YOs can make.
Reuben, 6 YO; Homeschooled; A real thinker; Enjoys riding his bike and playing with Elizabeth (who adores him)
Daniel, 4 YO; Learned to ride his bike without training wheels this summer and loves to ride that bike!
Dayton, 2 YO; A mommy's boy - loves to cuddle. Very smart and lives to be helpful!
Elizabeth, 8 MO; Our precious princess - crawling everywhere and can't wait to walk! NOT a cuddly baby - always on the move!
What is a rewarding experience you've had as a mommy?
The most rewarding experience as a mama was watching two of my older children give public testimony of their salvation and watching them get baptised.
What did you think you'd be when you grew up?
A mom, preferable with 5 children (Daryl wanted 5 children too, only at the time we didn't know we'd marry each other...LOL!)
Who did your classmates think you were in high school? Would your classmates be surprised by who you are now?
The social outcast with a loud mouth (how embarrassing is that!) Oh yeah!
Who were you before Snap-EZ, any interesting jobs or schooling?
I was a SAHM busy with homeschooling, playing the piano for church, taking violin lesson/playing in a small string ensemble, and doing an occasional labor coaching here and there. I hadn't had an out-of-the-home job for 12 years; the last job was working in a business that DH and I owned. I did go to college to become a music teacher, but my first class in education repelled me (yet now I homeschool - how ironic!)
How did you get started cloth diapering?
I've cloth diapered off and on with all my children, but it was always difficult and usually for financial reasons. I had made some flannel diapers with velcro with my 6th baby and they turned out well. Then a friend introduced me to the pocket diapers when I was cloth diapering Dayton in the cry room at our church - I loved the idea, but I couldn't afford to buy any at the time. So I made some of them for Dayton and they turned out really well!
What inspired you to create your business? Did you run into any obstacles in starting it?
Those first pocket diapers turned out so well that I made a few extra and put them up for auction on Ebay. After about the 4th auction, I got an email asking where my website was...and having a computer geek as a son, it wasn't long before I had one to send them to! My biggest obstacle was keeping up with demand - I had to work WAY too many hours and that meant sacrificing my time with my family.
What did your family say when you told them you were going to be an entrepreneur?
Most of them ignored me - thinking it was another in a long line of attempted home businesses I had tried (and failed miserably at) through the years (cosmetic parties, Melaleuca, breeding chinchillas, midwifery etc.).
If you could do any kind of work you wanted, other than the business you now have, what would you be doing?
If my kids were all grown, I might go back into midwifery. If I could, I wouldn't be working at all while my children are young.
If you have time for hobbies, or outside interests, what are they?
Playing musical instruments, reading historical novels, camping, spending time with friends, and studying the Bible.
What's something that no one would ever guess about you?
I aced a race car driving class!
What was your most embarrasing moment? Or perhaps an unusual story from your life?
Probably finding that somehow one of my bras was hanging from my sweater AFTER sitting down in church! That one still hurts - I don't know if anyone saw it and I don't think I want to know!!!
What is your favorite dessert?
A Chocolate Mint Sundae - Chocolate Chip Mint ice cream, with chunks of Andes mints, lots of hot fudge, and plenty of whipped cream!
What is your favorite movie?
Princess Bride, but Lady Hawke is a close second!
What one thing have you always wanted to try/do/learn, but have not had the time or resources to do?
Scuba Dive in tropical waters, preferably at a stopover while on a cruise.
If you could have a day to yourself (hubby and kids could be cared for if you wanted, and you were all caught up with sewing), how would you spend it?
I'd love to go camping with ALL the kids (Jeremy would be home on leave) and spend the day playing games and swimming with them.
Anything else you think would be fun for others to know about you?
I still like driving a little insane once in a while with my DH's mini hotrod - scared the wits out of a friend of mine recently, LOL!!!
What are your dreams for the future?
Finalize setting things up so I can work in the business as little as possible, build a home that has the business incorporated in the home, yet separate (like over the garage) so I can get away from it when I want to, have Daryl quit his job as a machinist and work with us at home, and become the best grandparent I can be!
