Sherry Craun likes to keep things simple, naturally. She's managed to make a reputation for herself by personally making all her products while caring for and home schooling her four children. Sherry's product line focuses on natural and organic materials like wool and hemp.
How many children do you have and what are their ages?
I have 4. My oldest is 12 and his name is Nathan. Then comes Emily, she
is 8. I then have another girl that is 6 and her name is Kaitlyn. Then my
baby is Aaron and he will be 4 in December.
What is a funny or rewarding experience you've had as a mama?
I think the most rewarding is just watching the children interact with each
other as siblings and best friends. We homeschool so the kids are with each
other 24/7 and with me. Watching them grow in their relationship with God
is also very special to me and my husband. It amazes me how a child that
is born totally dependant and unknowing can blossom into a thinking and
reasoning little person.
What did you think you'd be when you grew up?
A mom.
Who did your classmates think you were in high school?
I was pretty shy in school and still am. Though once you got to know me you
would never think that. I was a party girl.
Would they be surprised by who you are now?
Yes and no. I always knew I wanted to be a mom. I also always wanted three or four
children. I was also a hippy so what I do now is not too far off from what
I was like in high school. However I think most would think I would work
for someone else and not be my own boss. I was not so much a leader in
school but a supporter and follower.
How did you meet your husband?
This is a funny story. I worked as a nurse on a head trauma unit at a local
hospital. There was an older man that had come in for rehab after having a
stroke. Not too many of the nurses really cared to work with him as he
had a tendency to have wondering hands and a bit of a potty mouth (can you
say "dirty old man"??). I was the youngest nurse there and his humor did
not bother me so I would always do his rehab with him. He kept trying
to introduce me to his step son. Finally one day as I was getting on an
elevator he was getting off of it with his step son and right then and there
set us up for our first date. Kenny and I, I am sure were about as red from
embarrassment as possible, but we did go out and within 3 months were
engaged and then married 10 months later. Our 9th wedding anniversary was on
September 25. At the time I was a single momma going to school full time and working
fulltime. Meeting a life partner was the farthest thing from my mind.
Who were you before Natural Simplicity... any interesting jobs or schooling?
Not really. I had the typical jobs as a teen. Worked as a telemarketer, a
waitress, sold Mary Kay, baby sat, and worked in a few hospitals and Doctor's
offices.
If you could do any kind of work you wanted, other than the business you now have, what would you be doing?
A midwife.
If you have time for hobbies, or outside interests, what are they?
I love to walk and swim. We just bought our first home
so I can not wait until I can start to plant. I love to paint and we are
slowly working on doing all the rooms in our house.
Who, living or dead, real or fictional, would you like to have lunch with, and what would you discuss?
My deceased step father in law. He passed away when Emily was just 6 months
old. I would love him to meet his name sake (Aaron) and thank him again for
introducing me to the man that would change my life forever.
With which cartoon character do you most identify?
My husband says Road Runner. Because he always comes out on top. He says that if I
were to become a cartoon character that would fit me. Nothing ever overcomes him.
What's your favorite product from another WAHM?
I would have to say 2 things. 1 would be a patchwork dress that Terri of
Full Moon Baby Gear made my oldest daughter Emily. Emily loves that dress
and wears it whenever it is clean and it is made so well. Another thing
would be clothing my mom Marlyn of Heavenly Hineys makes my kiddos. She is
my inspiration and taught me everything I know. She is a strong woman that
has overcome breast cancer and lives daily with arthritis but she does not
allow it to slow her spirit down.
What's something that no one would ever guess about you?
I cut my own hair with clippers. I currently am letting it grow out some
but usually my hair is short! Think Demi Moore in Ghost. I am cheap too
plus it is really hard to take 4 children with you for a hair cut.
Anything else you think would be fun for others to know about you?
I am short. I have no idea genetically how. My mom and dad are both tall.
Both of my sisters are over 5'6 and here I am at 5'2.
